The pressure is off tonight for the game against St Mirren.
Lots of rumours doing the round about Marvin Compper starting…(remember him?). Obviously a strange choice if there is any truth in it but then again, with Boyata carrying that injury on Sunday & Benkovic not quite up to scratch, if we can’t put in a CB that we shelled out £1m for against a struggling St Mirren side when we have a 13pt gap, then it’s a bad day.
Either way, we should have enough in the tank to go there and get 3pts tonight and take a step closer to wrapping up the title. The focus is now heavily shifted to the cup and resting players. Lennon has spoken about the players cramping up and being physically drained. This was something I was critical of Brendan Rodgers for. There were games when I thought he should’ve rested key players, but he never did. As a result Kieran Tierney played more games than any other player in Europe last season and look at the injuries he’s picked up this season. McGregor is another who has been played loads this season.
I’m not suggesting we make wholesale changes, but we should be able to afford a couple of faces brought in to help the others recuperate for the final push.
St Mirren though are fighting for their Premiership survival so we know they are going to be scrapping for everything and making it difficult for us to break them down. We should have plenty of options to overcome that though ?
